What public health insurance has to cover by law

Under § 12 of the German Social Code Book V, public health insurance benefits must be "sufficient, appropriate and economical" and may not go beyond what is necessary. That is a solid basic level, and it is the same for everyone, whatever you pay in. Private health insurance covers what your contract says, and you choose that level yourself.

What you get for your money in private health insurance

Faster appointments

Specialist appointments in days, not months, and free choice of doctor.

Better hospital cover

Single or double room and treatment by the head physician, depending on your plan.

Premium not tied to income

A pay rise does not raise your premium. Old-age reserves help keep it stable later on.

Your exact premium, compared across all insurers

Free and without obligation. We answer to you, not to an insurer.
